Challenges
1. Low Average Order Value
Cove USA consistently attracted a healthy flow of website visitors, but the majority of these conversions resulted in single-product purchases.
While data showed that a significant percentage of customers returned for repeat purchases—indicating strong product satisfaction—there was untapped potential to increase the value of each transaction.
By encouraging customers to buy more in a single order, Cove aimed to increase their average order value and boost cash flow.
2. Need to Keep Designs Fresh
With a product line spanning six categories i.e. t-shirts, hoodies, chino pants, shorts, joggers, and sweaters—Cove faced the challenge of maintaining fresh inventory to engage returning customers. To make room for new designs, they needed a strategy to efficiently move existing stock while managing the complexities of sizes and styles across their diverse offerings.
3. Slow Moving Designs
Like many apparel brands, Cove occasionally faced the challenge of slow-moving designs. Fashion trends are subjective, making it difficult to predict which colors and styles will resonate with the broader audience. Cove sought a solution to tackle this issue for specific SKUs.
4. Leveraging Frequently Bought Together Products
Cove had noticed based on historical data, that certain products were often bought together.
E.g. hoodies and pants. It wondered if there was a way to leverage this data to generate more sales.
Solution
Cove quickly identified product bundling as the ideal solution to address their challenges. By installing the Easy Bundles App from the Shopify store, they could seamlessly create and launch tailored bundles.
As an Enterprise Plan customer, Cove benefited from tailored services, including custom coding to integrate their review app into the bundle flow seamlessly. Their bundles were live and ready to deliver results in no time.
1. ‘Fashion & Apparel’ Optimized Bundles
Cove’s bundling strategy was simple but extremely effective. They created bundles historically known to deliver in the fashion industry, be it retail or ecommerce.
a. Custom Discount Bundle: Buy Two Get One Free (Same Category)
Cove crafted this full-page bundle using their top-performing product categories: shorts, pants, and joggers. The process was simple yet effective—customers selected any three joggers, chose their free gift, and completed their purchase.
Essentially a 33.33% discount, the bundle helped communicate this more engagingly. A bold, straightforward banner communicated the steps, making it easy for customers.
Remarkably, this bundle type became the one that generated the highest revenue.

b. Fixed Price Bundle: Buy Three for $XX (Same Category)
Cove wanted to accelerate the inventory turnover on their t-shirts, priced at $29 each. As per their calculations, a 20% discount on their t-shirts helped them maximize profitability while keeping the offer enticing.
Cove, intelligently, packaged this offer as a ‘buy 3 t-shirts for $69’ bundle. Customers purchased 3 t-shirts instead of 1 at 20% off, instantly tripling AOV.
A fixed price of $69 reduced the cognitive load on customers, quickening their decision-making.

c. Fixed Price Bundle: Buy Two for $XX (Different Category)
Very similar to the bundle we just discussed— The goal here was to encourage the purchase of complementary products from other categories.
Data showed that a considerable number of customers purchased hoodies & pants together. So the probability of conversions on this bundle was higher.
It helped move inventory from 2 categories, each benefitting from the other
The fixed price, again, reduced cognitive load and eased the purchase decision.

d. Custom Discount Bundle: Buy One Get One for X% Off (Different Category)
Cove created a full-page custom discount bundle, where the idea again was to move t-shirts along with hoodies.
The immersive build-your-own-bundle, guided customers through the bundle building steps.
Like other bundles, customers could modify the size and quantity for a single product they picked in a pop-up window.

2. Delighting with Free Gifts
Cove leveraged Easy Bundles' ability to include free gifts within the bundle flow, creating an extra layer of excitement for their customers.
Free gifts are a proven tactic to boost conversions, as customers are naturally drawn to the opportunity to receive something at no additional cost. In this case, the pirate-themed stickers provided the perfect nudge to encourage the purchase.
3. Clever Marketing
Cove knew that simply a well-structured bundle offer and a smart bundle design wasn’t enough. They took simple yet clever steps to promote their bundles to incoming traffic.
Promoted different bundles on their home page on a rotating basis
Added a simple button on their product page with the CTA— “Save More with Bundle”. This was the single biggest source of traffic to the bundle pages.

4. Consistently Optimizing
Cove consistently monitored and refined their bundles to maximize conversions. For instance, when a product was featured in multiple bundles, they carefully tracked performance and adjusted over time to ensure the product page’s call-to-action directed customers to the bundle with the highest conversion rate.
